Sending a message does not make us your lawyers

Visiting this site, sending the contact form, emailing us, or asking a question does not create an attorney-client relationship. That relationship is created only one way: a written agreement signed by both you and the firm.

Until that written agreement exists, information you send may not be protected by attorney-client privilege and may not be treated as confidential. Send your name, how to reach you, and a general description of the problem. Save the confidential details for the conversation itself.

Sending us information we did not ask for creates no duty to you. It also does not prevent the firm from representing another party, in your matter or in any other matter.

Contacting us does not stop any deadline

Court dates, response deadlines, and sale dates keep running until a lawyer has been hired and has acted for you. Reaching out is the right first step, and it is only a first step. Until a written agreement exists, you remain responsible for every deadline in your case.

The information here is not legal advice

Everything on this site is general information. It is not legal advice about your situation, and laws change. Do not act, or decide not to act, based on this site alone. What your situation actually calls for is exactly what the free consultation is for.

Where we practice

We offer legal services only within the United States, and only in the jurisdictions where Attorney Richard E. Sexner is licensed or otherwise permitted to practice. This site is not directed to persons outside the United States. We are not seeking, and do not accept, clients outside those jurisdictions.

What we collect

If you use the contact form or call us, we receive what you choose to send: your name, how to reach you, and your description of the problem.

Like most websites, this site also collects basic technical information automatically, such as your IP address, browser type, and which pages you visit, through hosting and security logs. This information is about your device and visit, not your legal matter.

How we use it

We use the information you send to respond to you, to evaluate how we can help, and to provide legal services if you hire us. We use basic technical information to keep the site secure and understand how it is used.

What we never do

We do not sell your information. We do not rent it, trade it, or share it so that anyone else can market to you. If we share information at all, it is only with our own staff and attorneys, with lawyers assisting us in evaluating your matter, with service providers who keep this website running, or where the law requires it.

Cookies and advertising

This site may use analytics and advertising measurement tools. Their purpose is to tell us how visitors reach the site and whether our advertising is working. Which tools we use, and whether we use any at a given time, may change.

Where such tools are in use they may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser. What they record is information about your device and your visit, such as the pages you look at and the site or advertisement you arrived from. They do not record information about your legal matter.

Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their own settings. Doing so will not affect your ability to read these pages or to contact us.

How we protect what you send

We use reasonable safeguards to protect the information you send us. No method of sending information over the internet is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee security. Keep Social Security numbers, account numbers, and financial documents out of the form and out of email. Once you are a client, we will give you a secure way to send documents.

Your choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. Ask, and we will respond as the law that applies to you requires. If you change your mind and do not want to be contacted, send a message saying so, and that will be the end of it.

Links to other websites

This site may link to court websites and other resources. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and their policies govern what you share there.

Children

This site is for adults dealing with debt and foreclosure. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes to this page

If this policy or these terms change, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use of the site means you accept the version posted.

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Illinois.
